Immunoglobulin E (total)

The antibody class behind allergic reactions, reported here as the total across everything.

It rises with allergy, asthma and eczema, and also with parasitic infection.

A total tells you nothing about what you react to -- only specific IgE testing does that -- and a normal total does not rule allergy out. It varies over a very wide range in healthy people, so read it as an order of magnitude rather than a precise number.

Worth discussing a high value together with the eosinophil count.
