Myeloperoxidase

An enzyme that neutrophils release when they are activated inside a blood vessel wall.

It is offered as a marker of inflammation happening specifically in the arteries, rather than anywhere in the body.

Heparin releases it from the vessel wall directly, so a sample taken through a heparinised line reads high for reasons that have nothing to do with you. There is no agreed target, so read the direction rather than the number.

Worth reviewing with the rest of the cardiovascular panel rather than alone.
