Unit µg/dLTypical adult range 70–140 µg/dL

An essential mineral used by enzymes that handle iron and build connective tissue. Almost all of it in the blood is carried on ceruloplasmin.

Both deficiency and overload cause real disease, and it is the pair with ceruloplasmin that distinguishes them.

Because ceruloplasmin is an acute-phase protein, inflammation and the contraceptive pill raise measured copper without more available copper. High zinc intake blocks copper absorption, which is the commonest cause of a genuinely low value.

Worth discussing a low value together with ceruloplasmin.
