What it is
The copper-carrying protein in your blood. Almost all circulating copper is bound to it.
Why it matters
It is the test that identifies Wilson disease, where copper builds up because the liver cannot package it into this protein.
Reading the number
It is also an acute-phase protein, so inflammation, pregnancy and the contraceptive pill raise it -- which can push a genuinely low value into the normal range. Read it with serum copper, never alone.

When to raise it
Worth discussing a low value together with serum copper.
